the people of the second chance
About GraceGrace Church is located one block off Loop 256, on
Grace is a church with a long and rich heritage. We began in 1896 when it was first called Methvin's Chapel and was located on Austin Street (now Kolstad Street). Preaching and Sunday school were held in a three-room residence one block west of Esplande Street and on the north side of Austin Street. Later, the church was renamed Grace because nobody could pronounce Methvin's Chapel without spitting. :) In 1898, the Howard Avenue church was built on the corner of Gilbert and Howard Avenue. On February 10, 1913, the Howard Avenue church burned. Rev. T R Morehead erected a tent on Kolstad Street in the block next to the former parsonage. A Tabernacle was built in 1913 but was torn down and the old sanctuary was built. The sanctuary at the corner of West Kolstad and North Queen served Grace for many years.
In 2004, Grace took a huge leap of faith and relocated to its present location. With the purchase of 32 acres on
Sunday School - 9:15 am
Hangout - 10:15 am
Worship - 10:30 am
At present, we offer a blended style of worship - a little contemporary music mixed with the hymns of faith. Our worship services are anything but conventional. You might find our worship center redecorated like a football field and playing clips of the Cowboys on the widescreen tvs or set up like a restaurant in the front with a message on fresh made salsa. All of this to teach God's love in unique and quirky ways. You are guaranteed that it won't be boring or a waste of time. Pastor Phil and the Worship Planning Team work to make it fun, interesting and exciting to look forward to. We also love to laugh! So expect plenty of it.
Grace isn't a place where suits and ties fit in. We are ordinary people serving an extraordinary God! None of us are perfect so we don't pretend to be. So, be sure to come as you are. Jeans and t-shirts are the norm. However you feel comfortable is fine.
When you come to worship, be sure to visit our welcome center for a free gift. We welcome you and invite you to experience the difference that Grace makes. Because God is the God of second-chances, we strive to be the people of the second-chance!
